About Black & Yellow

Black & Yellow runs squash programmes, from a player’s first lessons to performance training. It works with communities and grassroots players as well as competitive athletes.

Coaches needed a consistent way to record assessments and review a player’s development. Athletes needed feedback they could return to between sessions.

What Helm delivered

The delivery covered business digitisation, the BAY app and analysis tools for squash. It brought the work of coaches and athletes into shared records, with the attempts and feedback behind each score.

Match & form analysis
Athlete assessment

Match, movement and athlete analysis

Match analysis

Review what happened during play and identify what to discuss with the athlete.

Form analysis

Look at how an athlete performs a movement, with the source material available for the coach to review.

Athlete assessment

Track a player’s results over time. Tests need comparable conditions for those changes to mean anything.

From a courtside test to coach feedback

In the BAY app, a coach chooses the tests, records each attempt and publishes the assessment. The athlete can then see their scores, the recorded attempts and the coach’s feedback.

BAY Coach app showing four court-side tests ready for an athlete assessment
Start at the court. The coach sees the approved tests and begins a structured assessment.
BAY athlete app showing a reviewed and published squash assessment
Publish the review. The athlete gets the score, coach focus and current assessment version.
BAY athlete app chart showing scores for twenty separate squash attempts
Keep the evidence. Every scored attempt stays available for review.
BAY athlete app showing squash test progress and attendance
See progress. Comparable tests and attendance build an athlete record over time.

What stays in the player’s record

Scores sit alongside the attempts and feedback behind them. Coaches and athletes can return to the record when reviewing progress or planning the next assessment.

  • AttemptsScore and evidence for every recorded repetition
  • AssessmentsReviewed tests, versions and coach feedback
  • ProgressChanges across tests completed in comparable conditions
  • AttendanceSessions attended and missed over time

The Helm approach

The starting point was the coach’s work: what was recorded on court, what needed reviewing and what the athlete should see.

  1. Feed AuditReviewed how coaching sessions, assessments and player records were handled.
  2. Feed BuildConnected each player’s tests, attempts and coach feedback.
  3. The SystemBuilt the app and analysis tools for coaches and athletes.
  4. The WatchEstablished support and review for the app and its analysis.
